Before I continue with the review I want to clarify something: after reviewing a game I give a rating which instead of stars it’s controllers, so 3 dark controllers and 2 grey controllers is 3 out of 5 stars (for example).
Buy the game here Before I start my review, I want to give a little bit of context to the release of this game. So, Hello Neighbor has been publicly releasing Betas and Alphas from their Kickstarter campaign for nearly two years now, and it’s been in the works for probably even longer. The game got a lot of hype and attention because it was and is completely different to all popular games today. Here's the very basic outline of the story without spoiling anything: Hello Neighbor is based on you, a teenager/adult, investigating your creepy neighbor who has questionable behavior. You try to find his secrets by breaking into all the rooms of his weird house. It can get quite scary at times when the neighbor grabs you when you least expect it. It's a pretty neat idea, and it definitely separates itself from the pack of 2017 indie games. So at the end of all the Betas and Alphas, people were left unsatisfied, they still had no idea who the person they played as were, how they ended up next to this neighbor and what he did exactly. Sometimes, when you got into a new room or discovered something, the game would give you these random hallucination-like cut scenes, or scenarios. These scenarios and cut scenes made absolutely zero sense and don’t give any solid evidence to some game theories (these cut scenes/scenarios are still present in the finished game). People dismissed it as the developers not wanting to give too much away and you ending up not buying the full game when it released. So the game released 9 days ago, on the 8th of December. People were extremely impatient for this release, hoping to have some clarification on the Betas and Alphas. Oh, and I forgot to add; each version of the Alphas and Betas were nearly always extremely different and almost irrelevant to one another. So anyway, when the game released people emptied their Steam wallets so they could play it as soon as possible, hoping to satisfy their frustration left over from the Alphas. So the game consists of 3 acts, all of which are different to each other. Here’s a breakdown of the Acts without spoiling anything: Act 1: This is not exceptional but not bad either, and kind of short. Act 2: Okay, this is definitely the peak point so far. Act 3: This feels rushed and definitely copied and pasted from some of the Alphas/Betas. The game ends When the game ends, it feels entirely wrong. You’re left with this one singular thought that everyone has when it’s over: “That’s it?” Yup, not a drop more of backstory or context from what the Betas and Alphas gave us. Honestly, I’m disappointed with tinyBuild. I would go as far to say that the pre-Alpha version of the game was better than the ‘final’ version of the game. Here’s the complete list of why I think this: -Bugs. FRICKING BUGS EVERYWHERE. Example: being caught without having the neighbor close to you (keep in mind that this happened to me more than once). -Unsatisfying context and ending (I’ve already told you all about this). -Only 3 hours total of gameplay. -The developers brag that the game has Advanced AI, in reality though, the AI is buggy as hell; he gets caught in walls and badly made game barriers ALL THE TIME. Which gives you an unfair advantage to explore the house without worry. -Bad controls. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that this game is unfinished. It consistently forgets what its bases and backstory is and eventually kind of floats away from what it was at the beginning. What I think happened to the game is that either it was put on pause, and rushed in the few last months before its release, or the developers tried multiple versions but it all felt wrong, and when the due date came around the corner, they tried to quickly brush off one of the messed up versions as the complete versions and put it on the market. So in conclusion, the big question everyone is asking: is it worth 30 bucks? I’d personally say that no, it’s super overpriced for the content and quality, and they should’ve just apologized to the community explaining that the game wasn’t finished yet and stretch the due date further. I’d say it’d be maybe worth your money if it was 10 bucks or under, but it isn’t, so, taking everything into consideration, I give the game:

Before I continue with the review I want to clarify something: after reviewing a game I give a rating which instead of stars its controllers, so 3 dark controllers and 2 grey controllers is 3 out of 5 stars (for example). Buy the game here Okay, so I want to start this review off by saying that Cuphead is a really, really, really great game. Let me accentuate this point; it's one of the greatest games of this year and probably 2018 too. So you're probably asking yourself right now: "What the hell is Cuphead?" Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game, based on 1930's cartoons. The game's storyline is heavily focused on boss battles since, well, the game wasn't supposed to have any story and was supposed to be only boss battles at first. The developers decided to add a story last minute, which explains the tardy release. People praise the game’s 1930’s cartoon aspect a lot, because it’s done so well. They also praise the sound and music which adds massively to the game’s art style. However no game is perfect, and this game isn’t an exception. People complain that the save file system is buggy and broken, they say that sometimes your save file just disappears and you have to start all over again, this is especially infuriating for people who are quite far in the game and have almost finished it. People also complain about the difficulty settings because in the game, if you’re on simple mode, at some point in the game it will force you to go to regular mode, which can be annoying for super casual players who don’t really want a challenge. Honestly, I think Cuphead is a really good game and sure, it has a few bugs, but they’re easily fixable. I think this game is way better than most of the popular titles released this year, and I’ll tell you the reasons why: The game had an impeccable release and it met up with people’s expectations for the game. That’s all you need to make gamers happy, and that is one thing most game developers don’t understand. In my opinion, and I think a lot of gamers will agree with me on this: it’s better to postpone a launch date for a game and have a good, polished off game, than rush the crap out of a game and get it launched as soon as possible, and have a buggy, broken, boring game. Taking everything into consideration I give Cuphead the following rating: Before I continue with the review I want to clarify something: after reviewing a game I give a rating which instead of stars its controllers, so 3 dark controllers and 2 grey controllers is 3 out of 5 stars (for example).
Buy the game here This thrilling, mildly scary survival game, got everyone excited for it before it came out, although the game concept is very fun when things run smoothly, the launch was one of the worst in Steam game history. Sure the game is fun, and addictive, running away from all kinds of different Jasons is a good time, and great for bonding with friends. However, there are some really bad, obvious bugs that were promised to be ironed out after the initial launch that actually never got fixed. Many angry reviewers blame the devs for being so bad at fixing their game, one reviewer said "One of the worst dev team in history. " Another said: "Playing the game with no issues. Actually one of the people who liked it. Got into a game with some girls who were protecting jason because they were his friend. They kept team killing people and being jerks. I called them out on it and they got mad that I was calling them out on their crappy behaviour. They threatened me by saying they knew the devs and would get me banned. I said fine I don't care stop being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s. The next morning I woke up to a big fat permanent game ban. Nice to see how the devs handle their games community." I had a lot of fun playing the game and I'd recommend it if the price weren't so high, if it were 10-15 bucks, I would say sure, go for it! BUT unless you're fine with the minor bugs (doors not opening, not being able to go inside the closet, etc) or the tremendously embarrassing (for the uncaring and negligent dev team) huge bugs, for example: Often, Jason clips into the ground and "dies" super early on in the game, or sometimes important items (car keys, car battery, etc) would clip into the ground, making them unattainable for everyone, which makes the counselor's job to survive so much harder. What pisses me off the most though, is that the dev team is so uncaring and selfish when it comes to benefiting the game and explaining and apologizing to the massive community of outraged players. The devs are known to ban randomly for no reason quite a bit. If you manage to get into a game when the servers aren't broken (which is 30% of the time) and there's no bugs, and everything runs smoothly, and the players act nicely and play fair game, you can have A LOT of fun! However, it's rare that you come along such a heavenly game, if you think about that, it's quite sad. If you have 40 bucks and have nothing else to spend money on then yeah buy it, but don't expect the best game experience 40 bucks can buy. Taking all that into account I give the game: Before I continue with the review I want to clarify something: after reviewing a game I give a rating which instead of stars its controllers, so 3 dark controllers and 2 grey controllers is 3 out of 5 stars (for example). Buy the game here This entertaining early access, multiplayer, building/engineering game is one of the best early access games money can buy on Steam right now. In the game you can create your own private world where you build all kinds of machines and buildings, or you can load in interesting and amazing community creations, such as rockets, all kinds of cars, airplanes, the list goes on and on. You can also play and mess around with your friends, which almost never gets boring. Everyone loves the game for a good reason: it’s a great creative playground for everyone, few people don’t like the game because they think it’s boring, and the few that do are just people who need gunfire and explosions 24/7 in order to be entertained. After playing it personally, I can say that the game has tremendous potential, with it being early access the game can only get better from now onwards. With Survival Mode being planned to be implemented in future updates, along with a bunch of other cool stuff, the game will be one of the best engineering/building games out there when finished. Now, for the bad parts: 1. The game has quite a bit of random lag spikes when in multiplayer, 2. The game will lag very badly when you have multiple big buildings or machines loaded in, 3. Game mechanics can be a little buggy at times, 4. If you’re on mac the game resolution automatically sets to 4k when you first boot up, which can be a pain to put back to 1080p 5. The game randomly crashes sometimes, 6. There aren’t any servers game devs promised would come soon a while ago. But, I gotta cut the game some slack as it is only in early access still, so it's prone to have some bugs and glitches. Considering everything, I highly recommend this game and I think it's worth every penny on Steam. So I therefore give the game: Before I continue with the review I want to clarify something: after reviewing a game I give a rating which instead of stars its controllers, so 3 dark controllers and 2 grey controllers is 3 out of 5 stars (for example).
Buy The Escapists 2 here Despite its mixed reviews, this game is great and has many improvements over the last game The Escapists. The game mechanics are so much better and easier (the crafting mechanics are a lot better, unlike the first game), the graphics are still Escapists style but with a modern twist, which doesn't ruin the game and somehow manages to conserve its arcade look. There's also a lot more content and stuff to do in the previous the previous game. However, there's some pretty crappy stuff about it too: I feel that the game was extremely overhyped, and that's natural since the first game was one was extremely popular and loved by many. But Team17 let their fans down big time with this sequel, including me. Are you wondering why I didn't mention the multiplayer mode? Well if you are here's the reason why I didn't praise it: It's. Completely. Shit. For example: If you join someone's server and you aren't the host, if you leave, you lose all of your items and stats, and your items go on to the floor where anyone can pick them up. The worst part of this bug is that the dev's actually claimed it was by design and it wasn't a bug. THAT IS HOW BAD THEY ARE. And just like that, you get 40% of your customers who bought the game not satisfied with their purchase. Another thing about the multiplayer is that AGAIN if you're not the host your job is bugged and you can't complete it, this mainly happens with the color coding jobs. Other random actions can become randomly bugged (looting a body, placing a fake wall, etc). This game was rushed out to steam way too quickly, causing many flaws in multiplayer mode. If they would've waited a little while for the multiplayer to be completely polished, they would've gotten much better ratings. I cannot recommend the game to you if you're looking to buy it purely for the multiplayer aspect, my advice would be to wait a little bit for the devs to come to their senses and fix the game. However, if you're not interested in the multiplayer aspect, I encourage you to buy the game, the story is a lot of fun and is definitely worth a try. After taking everything into consideration, the rating I give the game is below: |
