Before I continue with the review I want to clarify something: after reviewing a game I give a rating which instead of stars its controllers, so 3 dark controllers and 2 grey controllers is 3 out of 5 stars (for example).
Buy The Escapists 2 here Despite its mixed reviews, this game is great and has many improvements over the last game The Escapists. The game mechanics are so much better and easier (the crafting mechanics are a lot better, unlike the first game), the graphics are still Escapists style but with a modern twist, which doesn't ruin the game and somehow manages to conserve its arcade look. There's also a lot more content and stuff to do in the previous the previous game. However, there's some pretty crappy stuff about it too: I feel that the game was extremely overhyped, and that's natural since the first game was one was extremely popular and loved by many. But Team17 let their fans down big time with this sequel, including me. Are you wondering why I didn't mention the multiplayer mode? Well if you are here's the reason why I didn't praise it: It's. Completely. Shit. For example: If you join someone's server and you aren't the host, if you leave, you lose all of your items and stats, and your items go on to the floor where anyone can pick them up. The worst part of this bug is that the dev's actually claimed it was by design and it wasn't a bug. THAT IS HOW BAD THEY ARE. And just like that, you get 40% of your customers who bought the game not satisfied with their purchase. Another thing about the multiplayer is that AGAIN if you're not the host your job is bugged and you can't complete it, this mainly happens with the color coding jobs. Other random actions can become randomly bugged (looting a body, placing a fake wall, etc). This game was rushed out to steam way too quickly, causing many flaws in multiplayer mode. If they would've waited a little while for the multiplayer to be completely polished, they would've gotten much better ratings. I cannot recommend the game to you if you're looking to buy it purely for the multiplayer aspect, my advice would be to wait a little bit for the devs to come to their senses and fix the game. However, if you're not interested in the multiplayer aspect, I encourage you to buy the game, the story is a lot of fun and is definitely worth a try. After taking everything into consideration, the rating I give the game is below:
